Addressing the global burden of cancer
Cancer is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide, characterized by the uncontrolled growth and spread of abnormal cells that can invade surrounding tissues and metastasize to distant organs. Among the various malignancies, oral cancer represents a significant public health challenge, particularly in South and Southeast Asia, where the widespread use of tobacco, betel quid, areca nut, and alcohol substantially increases disease incidence.
In India, oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) accounts for the majority of oral cancer cases and is often diagnosed at advanced stages due to the lack of effective early screening and public awareness. Despite advances in surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy, the five-year survival rate remains relatively low for advanced disease. There is an urgent need for improved early diagnostic tools, predictive biomarkers, and targeted therapeutic strategies to reduce mortality and improve quality of life for patients affected by oral cancer.
EGFR and VEGF pathway targeting
EGFR and VEGF pathways are centrally involved in the occurrence of oral cancer. Antibody-based therapeutics can block these signaling cascades to limit proliferation, survival, metastasis, and tumor angiogenesis.
IMGENEX antibody programs for oral cancer
IMGENEX INDIA is developing VHH, ScFv, and bi-specific antibodies against EGFR and VEGF for the treatment of oral cancer. View our pipeline.
